Team overview
Team lets you give a job to an AI teammate with a defined specialty, then continue the discussion, follow progress, and review the delivery in one place. It is not another name for a chat: each teammate has their own memory and workspace. A group shares discussion, work, and one effective workspace—its internal group workspace until you link a project folder, then that project folder.

Choose the right way to collaborate
| What you need | Use | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Ask a question or discuss an option | Chat | The reply stays in the conversation; no reviewable work item is created. |
| Give one teammate a defined deliverable | Assign work | Ghast creates a tracked item that comes back to you for review. |
| Collect independent views from several teammates | Roundtable | Each teammate answers independently; the lead summarizes agreement and differences. |
| Keep working with one specialist | Direct message | The teammate uses their own memory and workspace. |
| Collaborate around one shared topic | Group | Members share messages, work items, group deliverables, and group memory. |
The Team interface
Expand the left sidebar to find:
- New conversation: create a group and choose members.
- Agent Store: discover, activate, and manage teammates.
- Search: find DMs and groups.
- Direct: one-to-one conversations; badges show work awaiting review or blocked.
- Groups: shared conversations; badges show work awaiting review or blocked.
Most conversations have three tabs:
- Chat: messages, replies, work discussions, and Run details.
- Work: tracked work in the current DM or group.
- Files: the teammate or group's base workspace plus external artifacts declared in messages.
Assign your first work item
- Open Team → Agent Store.
- Find a teammate marked Ready and open a DM.
- Switch to Assign work and state the goal, deliverable, constraints, and acceptance criteria.
- When the work is in review, use Work details to request changes, accept, or cancel.
Write work that can be reviewed
Goal: prepare next week's product launch checklist.
Deliverable: one Markdown checklist grouped by owner.
Scope: use only launch information already provided in this group.
Constraints: do not contact anyone or change production systems.
Acceptance: every item has an owner, due time, and blocker; list unknowns separately.
“Look at the launch” is hard to review. The example defines the artifact, information boundary, forbidden actions, and a visible finish line. If the job involves files, accounts, the network, or an external system, state the allowed and forbidden scope in the request.
For a reproducible first exercise, follow the stable 0.1.33 checklist walkthrough: assign Theo, ask Sana to review, request a revision, and accept the revised reply. It uses fictional facts and shows the actual result, prerequisites, and review limitations.
Instructions are not technical permissions
Statements such as “do not edit files” or “do not use the network” are task constraints for the teammate. They do not disable a Tool or revoke a system permission. The actual capability boundary depends on the kind of teammate:
- A Ghast teammate profile shows configured capabilities; each job is also limited by that teammate's workspace, the current conversation permissions, and authorization for external accounts.
- A local coding agent uses its own Tools, Skills, Plugins, and permission settings. It is not governed by the Tool selection in Chat or Coding. When it needs approval or input, Ghast forwards the request to you.
For high-risk work, combine all four controls: write the scope in the request, choose the smallest workspace, use an appropriate permission mode, and review the complete action whenever an approval request appears. A natural-language prohibition alone is not an enforced security boundary.
You remain the reviewer
In review means the teammate submitted a result; it does not make the result correct. Compare the reply and files with the original request before you request changes, accept, or cancel. See Work items and review for the full workflow.
